Drones can not only be used for videography, they can be used for destructive proposes, furthermore, drones can fly in secured zones and in the routes of flights. Due to such reasons, drones are generally banned in most parts of the world for general people. Still, by submitting the proper documents and by giving reasons for flying drones, drones permits can be issued from the concerned authority.

In Nepal, Drone flying is handled by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). According to CAAN, no one shall operate drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) without obtaining the prior permission. For Tourists intending to fly drones in Nepal, one should take permission for flying the drones from:
- Department of Tourism
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- CAAN Nepal (not necessary for drones or UAV under 2 kg and below 200ft from ground level)
Besides that, for tourists that are interested in doing research purpose in Nepal, one should take permission from Line Ministry/Department relating to the subject matter of research/study with proper documentation for the matter of the related research.
Trekking in Nepal generally falls under certain conservation areas and towards certain reserved lands. For example, the Everest, Annapurna trekking routes which are considered as the most certain trekking routes falls under conservation area. For flying drones in those areas, one must take permission from those specific local authorities and can only fly under certain criteria.
General rules for Flying Drones in Nepal are listed below.
- Drones more than 2kg should take permission from CAAN, Department of Foreign Affairs for flying above 200ft from ground level.
- Drones are not allowed to fly around the congested areas.
- Drones are not allowed to fly around airports.
- You are not allowed to fly your drones harming someone’s privacy and in someone’s private property.
- Do not fly drones higher than 1500ft above the ground.
- Keep your drone straight from your sight.
