Mustang Trekking is the best trekking destination. Mustang is also known as the last forbidden kingdom. It is also known as a mystique valley and “mini Tibet of Nepal”. Many cultural, natural and geographical features here are close to the Tibetan lifestyle. The geographical landscape of Mustang is barren having an isolated environment located in the north mid-western part of Nepal.
Upper Mustang is semi-autonomous and Tibetan influenced territory. Here enchanting monasteries, caves, treeless barren land, pasture land for sheep, picturesque villages show the real existence of primitive society. Forbidden and isolated from the rest of the world, it was able to progress its own distinguishing culture and heritage. The major attraction of upper mustang is the walled city of Lo- Manthang with a unique King palace.
Upper Mustang was separated kingdom of Nepal until the time of Monarchy in 2006. Even there is no king in Nepal but people of Mustang have the same respect for their present king Jigme Paramal Bista. The trail to the mystique kingdom of Nepal requires a special permit. It costs $ 500 per person which is valid for 10 days.
The region of Mustang lies in the north of the main Himalayan range also know as trans-Himalaya. This trek offers an additional view of the huge Himalayas such as Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna (8091m), Nilgiri (7824m). You will be surrounded by many high mountains which are more than 6000 meters.
After having a 20-minute flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, go ahead to Kagbeni, Samar, Ghami, Charang, and Lo-Manthang. We try to organize a trek to Lo- Manthang targeting “TIJI” festival also known as “The chasing of the Demons”. It is the most important festival in this region and is celebrated in the month of May. Here Buddhist monks are dressed in elaborate customs, masks and perform a dance. They read holy books that are supposed to drive out the evil spirit from the body. Those people who want to trek to “Off the Tibetan Path” Upper Mustang will be a better choice.
